Over the last two days, I and my hardworking team of soil corers have found evidence of early habitation at two sites on Hegranes - Túnfótur (a ruin on the present-day farm of Ás II) and Gerði (a named place on the present-day farm of Keldudalur). I plan to do some excavation at both sites later this summer!
By the way, as I learned last month, Icelandic for folding ruler is tommustokkur. (Not Thomas Tucker, as the American crew has now named it!)
Next step: more cores, other farms!

Getting Started
It's hard to believe I've been in Iceland for over a month already! I've spent the last several weeks meeting with colleagues at Svartárkót and in Reykjavík, and working in the field with archaeologists from Byggðasafn Skagfirðinga. The rest of the SCaSS crew arrived on Monday and we've started on survey, geophysics, and the part that is closest to my heart - coring.
